Editor's Corner

Have you heard of noctilucent or “night-shining” clouds? They are high-altitude clouds seen at high latitudes that light up at night, especially in the summer months, and are apparently quite beautiful to watch. Around the end of last month they apparently seemed to disappear for a few weeks or so, which has not happened in nearly 20 years. Click here

Speaking of water, did you know that the weight of winter snow and stream water each year pushes the Sierra Nevada mountains down by about three-eights of an inch? That may not sound like much but when the amount of water changes enough, like in late summer when a lot of it has melted away, the change in weight means a change in the stresses on fault lines and the area sees an increase in small earthquakes. On a slightly different subject, have you heard of color-changing tattoos? Apparently a tattoo using biosensor ink could be used as an indicator as to how healthy a person is. For example, this could give a constant blood sugar readout for diabetics. Click here

Incredible Discovery Reveals Multi-Dimensional Universe In Human Brain Network!
The human brain is amazing! Our brain is an advanced super computer that is more efficient, and possesses more raw computational power than the most impressive supercomputers that have ever been built. A groundbreaking discovery begins to reveal the brain’s deepest architectural secrets and it’s clear that our brain is even more advanced than we could ever imagine. Scientists have discovered a multi-dimensional universe in brain network. There are structures in the brain with up to eleven dimensions! If we could access higher dimensions we could see all past, present and future events appear before our eyes simultaneously. The superstring theory, one of the leading theories today has the potential to will unlock one of the biggest mysteries of the universe, namely how gravity and quantum physics fit together. The superstring theory contends that there are 10 dimensions. This new discovery shows there is so much more we don’t know yet about our brain’s capabilities.

Over 1mn sign petition to ban Monsanto’s weed killer in EU over cancer fears
More than a million people have signed a petition demanding that the European Union ban glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup weed killer, over fears it causes cancer. "In less than five months, more than one million EU citizens have joined our call for a glyphosate ban," said David Schwartz, coordinator at the European Citizens Initiative, which is behind the petition, as quoted by AFP. "European citizens aren't fooled by the pesticide industry's lobbying efforts or the faulty science it's peddling," he said. The group said it achieved the minimum number of signatures required to receive a formal response from the European Commission – 1 million names from at least seven countries – in record time. Environmental organization Greenpeace said the five-month campaign was the "fastest growing... since the EU introduced this [petition] tool in 2012." "Our politicians need to hear this message loud and clear," Schwartz said.

Mystery Of The Missing Noctilucent Clouds – Why Did They Suddenly Vanish?
Noctilucent or “night-shining” clouds (NLCs) are mysterious, electric glowing clouds that are beautiful to watch. They were first seen 1885 about two years after the powerful eruption of Krakatoa hurled plumes of volcanic ash as much as 80 km high in Earth’s atmosphere. These eye-catching clouds were previously only seen over almost exclusively in Earth’s polar regions, but they are now also visible in the skies over the United States and Europe and elsewhere. At the end of May, 2017 Europeans could observe these electric glowing clouds over the western horizon at sunset. It was then assumed, that the summer season for noctilucent clouds had started. Then something mysterious happened. The clouds were no longer visible. How can we explain the mystery of the missing noctilucent clouds? Space Weather reports they have not received any images of noctilucent clouds. This has never happened before in nearly 20 years!

Seasonal rain and snow trigger small quakes on California faults | Berkeley News
California’s winter rains and snow depress the Sierra Nevada and Coast Ranges, which then rebound during the summer, changing the stress on the state’s earthquake faults and causing seasonal upticks in small quakes, according to a new study by University of California, Berkeley seismologists. The weight of winter snow and stream water pushes down the Sierra Nevada mountains by about a centimeter, or three-eighths of an inch, while ground and stream water depress the Coast Ranges by about half that. This loading and the summer rebound – the rise of the land after all the snow has melted and much of the water has flowed downhill – makes the earth’s crust flex, pushing and pulling on the state’s faults, including its largest, the San Andreas. The researchers can measure these vertical motions using the regional global positioning system and thus calculate stresses in the earth due the water loads. They found that on average, the state’s faults experienced more small earthquakes when these seasonal stress changes were at their greatest.

Evacuations, flooding & roads washed away as France lashed by storms (VIDEOS, PHOTOS)
Some 160 people have been evacuated as violent storms batter the southeast of France, causing widespread damage to roads and bridges. One person is missing and authorities have issued a series of alerts over the severe weather. A 27-year-old man is missing after being swept away by floodwaters near the village of Brignon, in the Haute-Loire area. The area was severely hit by the powerful storms that landed on Tuesday night. The farmer was reportedly leading rescue workers to a remote house to help a trapped woman when his vehicle was engulfed by the rushing waters. Rescue teams carried out searches and a body was found on Wednesday. The missing man’s tractor was found close to the recovered remains, however they have not been officially identified, La Montagne report. The torrential downpour led to extreme flooding in the Haute-Loire area. In the town of Landos local pharmacy owner Jean-François Bardot described the scene as “apocalyptic.”

Heavy monsoon rains wash away over 350 houses, kill at least 10 people in Mizoram
Heavy monsoon rains are affecting the Indian state of Mizoram since Monday, June 12, 2017, causing landslides and severe flash floods that washed away more than 350 houses and claimed lives of at least 10 people by Tuesday afternoon, June 13. Authorities say the number of casualties is likely to increase and that damage in some areas is so extensive that even a rough estimate is difficult. The India Meteorological Department said that the southwest monsoon, which entered the region on Monday was already vigorous over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, active over Assam and Meghalaya and normal over Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy rains across the states are expected until Friday. IndiaToday reports that Tlawng river is under its largest recorded flooding in the last 50 years. Damage due to flooding, landslides and mudslides across several districts it runs through is so extensive that even a rough estimate is difficult, officials said.

Record snowmelt, raging rivers across America's West claim 21 lives
Raging rivers caused by record snowmelt claimed lives of at least 21 people across the America's West so far this season, forcing officials to close sections of rivers popular with swimmers, rafters and fishing enthusiasts. In Utah and Wyoming, some rivers gorged by heavy winter snowfall have overflown their banks, and rivers in Utah are expected to remain dangerously swollen with icy mountain runoff for several more weeks, the Associated Press reports. "The sheer beauty of the rivers is their draw — and represents a big danger to people who decide to beat the heat by swimming or rafting with little awareness of the risks posed by the raging water." So far this year, there have been at least 11 drownings in California since the snowpack started melting in May. Six people have died in the rugged Tule River south of Yosemite.

Color-changing tattoos could revolutionize how we treat diabetes (VIDEO)
Scientists are testing new tattoo ink which morphs in color depending on changes to your health. The Dermal Abyss project by researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is being tipped to change the way common ailments like diabetes are monitored. Using biosensor ‘ink’, which interacts with glucose, sodium and other chemical compounds produced by humans, it’s hoped the tattoos may be able to show when a person’s body is experiencing health-impacting changes. For example, Dermal Abyss may make the daily piercing of the skin a thing of the past for diabetics, since glucose levels would be revealed through the colors of a tattoo. It could also provide an instant warning to those in danger of suffering from potentially fatal complications deriving from hyperglycemia.
